Projects

The following information outlines projects and programs that the Olympia Music Teachers Association is currently involved with and in support of.

State Projects

CERTIFICATION

MTNA and WSMTA Certification is a statement of professional accomplishment and may be obtained by college degree, by examination, or by a combination of education and examination. Certified teachers are granted a Professional Certificate upon completion of certain requirements. The Permanent Professional Certificate is awarded after the teacher has completed two renewals.

ADJUDICATIONS

The WSMTA Adjudications is an educational program for students and teachers at the Local Chapter level to encourage interest in music and to maintain high standards of musicianship and music teaching.

The WSMTA Adjudications provide:
• performance opportunities for objective evaluations of student's musicianship and skill by a well-qualified professional musician
• opportunities for teachers to have their teaching evaluated by well-qualified professional musicians.

MUSICRAFTERS

Musicrafters is a basic achievement program in theory, technique and repertoire. Awards are given for completing the requirements for each of the twelve successive levels.

YOUNG COMPOSERS PROJECT

The YCP gives students the opportunity to present original compositions for judging and comments from an adjudicator. There are 5 entry classifications with 11 levels ranging from primary through collegiate. First place winners are invited to perform their compositions at the annual WSMTA Convention.

HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT

Students who study with a WSMTA Certified teacher may earn high school credit. This program has the endorsement of the Washington Music Educators Association and is implemented at the discretion of the each local school district.

ACCOMPANIST CERTIFICATES and CHURCH MUSICIAN CERTIFICATES

Special Certificates of Merit are awarded to students who accompany school music groups and to students who participate in the music at their church. These may be obtained from the WSMTA Executive Secretary or the Maurer Company.
