Professional Background:

I am a nationally and state certified teacher through Washington State Music Teachers’ Assoc. and Music Teachers’ National Assoc. I have a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music from the University of Washington. In addition to this education, I have continued to study piano privately, train in the Dalcroze and Pace methods and attend state and national conventions and workshops.

I have been an active participant/volunteer in our local and state chapters of Washington State Music Teachers’ Assoc. I have been teaching piano privately for 29 years.

I like to teach students a love a music that will last a lifetime and the musicianship skills to continue their exploration of new music after they graduate or move away.

Studio Information:

I teach grade school through adult ages in my home studio. Students receive weekly private lessons, unless there is a group lesson scheduled, in which case it is “in place of “ the private lesson. Adult students have weekly lessons. In addition, each student is scheduled for a computer lesson. Computer lessons provide reinforcement in theory, ear training and composition (a music notation program also). I subscribe monthly to a computer game software site available to my students.

I like to teach a lot of music theory and music history. We study at least four composers in depth throughout the year. Students subscribe to the “Piano Explorer” magazine (10 issues for $4.00 annually). I use the magazine’s coverage of composers to start our study and follow up with computer lessons, a listening station, books and teaching aids and “composer bingo” at group lessons.

I have three recitals each year in addition to the group performance classes, approximately once a month. My students can participate in any programs offered by our local chapter, state or national associations. Most recently they have participated in our annual adjudications, the national music achievement awards and music study programs and local sonatina/baroque festivals.
