Olympia Music Teachers Association Mission Statement

The purpose of the Association is the advancement of musical knowledge and education. Activities of the Association are aimed at the promotion of the art of music and the advancement of musical knowledge by providing educational opportunities, which further the appreciation of music throughout the state.

Washington State Music Teachers Association is affiliated with MTNA - Music Teachers National Association.

From the Twelfth to the Twenty-First Century!

The Olympia Music Teachers Association teaches music from all of these centuries, but last year we had the opportunity to jump into the twenty-first century. One of our members volunteered to design and manage a web site for our chapter! This put us in line with both our national and state organizations, who have web sites. We are on the cutting edge for local music teacher chapters. Very few chapters in Washington have their own web site yet.

We are embracing this opportunity for better communication with our community, parents, students and each other. This is just the beginning, as we discover all of the ways that this can help us to help our students. All of our members are represented on the web site (see Directory). Members had the choice of opting for their own personal web page at olymta.org and/or a link to their web site. I can hardly wait to see all of the possibilities that are in our future!

From the President

Olympia Music Teachers Association Members are also Members of Washington State Music Teachers' Association (WSMTA) and National Music Teachers' Association. (NMTA). These two parent organizations offer our Members professional opportunities; educational enhancement; teaching support; and many other professional benefits. Students of OMTA Members receive the benefits of competitions on Local, State and National levels; a yearly Adjudication Program; and opportunities to perform in Local Recitals and Festivals (see Calendar of Events).

I am proud to be a Member of OMTA and to serve in the capacity of President this year.
