We are the Olympia Chapter of Washington State Music Teachers Association.
WSMTA is affiliated with MTNA - Music Teachers National Association.
Our local Chapter is referred to as OMTA. Our reason for existing is noted below in our Mission Statement. Some additional reasons are:
- To provide professional support and to have more opportunity as a collective force than as individuals
- To exist for the enrichment, benefit, and encouragement of each member
- To work together and combine our talents
- To help each other maintain a Professional Standard in our Responsibilities to our Students, Colleagues, and to the Public
We hope our Website will provide better communication with our community, parents, students and each other. All of our member are represented on the website (see Directory). You’ll also find links for our Calendar of Events.
OMTA, under WSMTA and MTNA, provide teachers opportunity for involvement in such things as:
- Certification- a Professional Certificate upon completion of certain requirements
- Adjudication - an educational program for students and teachers at the Local Chapter level to encourage interest in music and maintain high standards of musicianship and music teaching
- Chapter Festivals, Local Recitals and Competitions
- Continued learning and enrichment through Chapter Programs which are offered at our monthly meetings throughout the year. We started our year in September with Maestro Huw Edwards, Conductor of the Olympia Symphony as our Guest Speaker
